Medication Timelines for Surrogacy

Medication uses, dosages, and cycles can look very different from person to person. Scroll down to see two different timelines for medications from actual surrogates who’ve worked with our team.

Example 1

In February, Amy begins taking a prenatal vitamin.

On March 9th, Amy begins a daily birth control pill. She stops taking it on March 16th.

On March 20th, she begins taking one 81mg baby aspirin daily. She also begins a series of injections of 0.15 mL of estradiol valerate.

On March 24th, Amy has her second injection of estradiol valerate. Her third injection is on March 27th, and her fourth is on March 31st. These continue every three or four days through to her positive pregnancy test.

On April 5th, Amy begins a 1mL progesterone supplement daily.

On April 10th, she begins a progesterone suppository. She has her transfer the next week.

On April 20th, Amy takes her first pregnancy test! Pending this, she’ll stop use of these medications after ten weeks of pregnancy.

Example 2

In December, Carrie begins taking a prenatal vitamin.

On January 9th, she begins a daily birth control pill. She stops taking it on January 29th.

On January 22nd, Carrie begins taking 10 unites of lupron daily.

On February 5th, she begins 0.15 estradiol valerate injections. She continues to have one every three or four days.

On February 19th, she stops taking lupron. The next day, she begins taking medrol and 1mL of progesterone daily.

On February 25th, Carrie begins a progesterone medcap cycle and stops taking medrol. She has her transfer the next week.

On March 8th, she takes her first pregnancy test! Pending this, she’ll stop use of these medications after ten weeks of pregnancy.

On April 9th, Carrie moves from .15mL injections of estradiol to .10mL injections. On the 20th, she moves down to 0.05mL injections. The next week, she’ll stop estradiol injections altogether.
